Two local musicians will be leading this month's double bill in a showcase of young improvisers whose names you will certainly want to learn if you haven't already.
Tony Levin Prize-winning drummer Nathan England-Jones can often be heard playing in more conventional jazz situtations such as the Xhosa Cole Quartet and the Elliott Sansom Trio. Here we will be seeing a side of this emerging talent more inspired by free improvisation and experimental electronics as he appears in a double-drum duo with Dan Johnson. The Bristol-based Johnson often pushes the boundary between musical improvisation and performance art and has toured extensively as a soloist and with various creative ensembles.
Also an award-winning graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, saxophonist Ben Partridge will be performing in a trio alongside Leo Morland on guitar and Dom Holyoake on drums. All three young musicians are fast establishing themselves as leading figures on the Birmingham scene and this will be an exciting opportunity to catch three young lions on the ascendancy.
