Do you have an interest in improvised and experimental music?
The Fizzle Improv Workshop is a free-to-attend space to bring musicians of all backgrounds and experience together to learn about and practice free improvisation. You don’t have to have any prior experience of improvising, but a willingness to have a go! Each session will be led by a top Birmingham-based improviser - this first event will be with Birmingham-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator, Alicia Gardener-Trejo. She has collaborated with artists including Percy Pursglove, Jeff Williams, Natalie Sandtorv, Jason Singh, Mark Sanders, Faye MacCalman and Paul Dunmall, and is a member of Surge Orchestra, Gospel Revisited Project, Reworkestra and Birmingham Jazz Orchestra. Gardener-Trejo’s own bands include the 11 piece ensemble Bobtail (debut EP Frolic released 2016) and collaborative improvised music trio Bobhowler (debut EP Figures released 2020). Her newest project Home/Lands featuring Brodie Jarvie, Jonathan Silk and Andrew Woodhead performed their brand new work commissioned by Jazzlines at Symphony Hall in 2023. As a composer she been commissioned to write for the Greater Manchester Jazz Orchestra and Surge Orchestra, and has featured on recordings played on BBC Radio 3, JazzFM, BBC Scotland and BBC6Music.
