UK guitarist Steve Saunders and Danish alto saxophonist Asger Nissen present arche (ar-kay), a bass-less trio that have performed with a variety of drummers including legendary New York jazz drummer Jeff Williams.

The group performs original compositions collaboratively composed by Asger and Steve that explore contemporary music techniques within an open, improvisatory framework, presenting a project in which the compositions and improvisations all become part of one, unified language.

Within this open instrumentation, the group moves in and out of abstract materials freely, demonstrating compositional influences from figures such as Pierre Boulez, Elliott Carter, and serialists Morton Feldmanand Milton Babbitt, all whilst drawing upon the depth of the jazz and improvised music tradition.

For this concert, they will be performing with Birmingham-based drummer and electroacoustic composer Kai Chareunsy.

An instrumentation set forth by the great Paul Motian, the group provides a contrasting and contemporary take on this unique ensemble configuration whilst keeping tradition with its legacy.
