The first Dr Steve's Jazz Surgery of 2023 explores the notion of "standard" thru a musical philosophical investigation of popular jazz standards and the endless potential they offer for 21st century jazz musicians. Q. What is a jazz standard? Who decides? And how can contemporary musicians contribute to our understandings of the "canon" of jazz standards?
