A Celebration Of James Baldwin in Film and Music with Neil Charles' Dark Days

TDE Promotions celebrates the life and work of the American writer James Baldwin known for his novels, such as Giovanni's Room, and writing about racial issues in the USA.

We celebrate him by showing the film I Am Not Your Negro and then presenting Neil Charles' Dark Days Quartet with Cleveland Watkiss on vocals, Pat Thomas on piano, Neil Charles on double bass and Mark Sanders on drums.

Neil has written various compositions inspired by Baldwin's book about racial issues, Dark Days. The pieces include quotations from the book declaimed by Cleveland Watkiss and improvisations from the group. It's powerful music that reflects Baldwin's life and work.

6.30pm | Screening of I Am Not Your Negro written by James Baldwin & Directed by Raoul Peck featuring the voice of Samuel L. Jackson

8pm | Interval

8.30pm | Neil Charles Dark Days Quartet

We hope that you will join us for both the film and performance, but we are happy for people to attend just one part of the evening.
