One of the joys of improvised music is the opportunity it provides for musicians with diverse cultural backgrounds to explore and discover each other’s musical palette in search of common expression. Harpist Alina Bzhezhinska and saxophonist Tony Kofi are a duo that beautiful melds Ukrainian and West African through a shared love of jazz and improvised music. Their first studio album as a duo, Altera Vita, was released in April 2024 and is dedicated to the music of Pharaoh Sanders.
