We are thrilled to announce a brand-new improvisation workshop series for women and gender expansive musicians!

This is Our Music! is a series of 4 free-to-access, specially curated workshops led by Birmingham-based improvisers Piera Onacko and Alicia Gardener-Trejo. The sessions will guide participants through key areas of improvisation, creating a safe space to explore unfamiliar territory for musicians who are new to improvisation.

We’d love to hear from anyone who:

  • Identifies as a woman/trans/gender expansive

  • Has played an instrument* for 3yrs** or more

  • Wants to explore improvising for the first time

  • Wants to build confidence and develop their all-round musicianship

  • Would love the opportunity to meet and play with other likeminded people on similar musical journeys

  • Is 14yrs or above (no upper age limit!)

Workshops will run from 11:30 - 13:00 on Sunday 25th October '26, 31st January '27, 21st March '27 & 30th May '27 at Pan-Pan, 25D Floodgate St, Deritend, B5 5SL. As part of the final session, participants will also get the opportunity to perform a set at May's Fizzle double bill at Centrala.

This is Our Music! is free to attend, and participants will receive a discount on tickets for all Fizzle events.

Spaces are limited, so sign up today!

Please note, priority will be given to people who are able to attend all 4 workshops. Participants are required to bring their own instruments, with the exception of pianists (a piano is provided at the venue; to ensure every participant gets the most out of the sessions, piano spaces are extremely limited)

* These workshops are best suited to pitched instruments & vocalists.

**3yrs is a rough guide – the workshops are best suited to musicians who are familiar with their own instruments, as currently we are unable to provide specific instrumental support.
